How ‘Justice For Sale’ Earned Banjo Investigative Journalist Of The Year

The journalism community in Nigeria stood still recently, in celebration of Damilola Banjo whose investigative work, Justice For Sale won her the “Investigative Journalist Of The Year” award

This was in the just concluded Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting WSAIR 2020

Damilola Banjo who won the online category of the award for the story published on Sahara Reporters, was also announced as the overall winner for the year at the end of the 3-day WSAIR Conference.

The event themed Masked but not Silenced, heldon Wednesday 9, December, 2020 at the NECA House Lagos.

Banjo’s Justice For Sale is an Investigative report published that expose the illegal and extrajudicial activities like extortion, intimidation, abuse of human right and dignity by the police force in Nigeria using the Gbagada Anti-Cultism Unit as a case study.

Other awardees at the ceremony include: Samuel-Wemimo, winner of the Television Investigative Reporting Category for her work – Sexual Abuse: How Police Officers Clog The Wheels of Justice, shown on TVC; Victor Asowata in the Cartoon Category for his work: Canada opens doors for medical professionals published in Punch newspaper.

Chukwuemeka Ibe emerged winner in the Photo Category for: An armed female soldier punishes a commercial bike rider at Marabara, Nasarawa, published by Daily Trust, while Samson Folarin won in the Print category for his work – FHRO certificate Scandal, published by Punch.

There were a couple of runners-up.
