How Gunmen Came And Whisked Away Dep Gov’s Brother

The whereabouts of a brother to the deputy governor of Edo State are still unknown after he was whisked away by gunmen that came through the river.

The man identified as Frederick Shaibu was accosted by the gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers on his way to dropping his kids in the school near Benin City, the Edo state capital.

“They attacked him and took him away. It happened in Aruogba area, Irhiri at around 7 am when he was going to drop his children in school.

“The children were left by the gunmen and took their father away. But the incident has been reported to security agencies, they have not made any contact with the family.

“It is believed that the kidnappers came through the river because people who saw the incident said they went through the bushes in that area that leads to the riverside.

”Security agencies have been informed and they are doing everything possible to ensure that he is released unhurt and be reunited with his family,” a family source told the Vanguard.

Though the incident happened on Monday, but no contact had been established with the gunmen as at today.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor said he was yet to get the full briefing of the incident. “I am not aware of this development yet but I will find out and get back to you.”

Recall that last week, a mob in the capital had lynched and set ablaze two suspected armed robbers, just a day after the governor, Godwin Obaseki, paid a visit to the state’s police command.

Obaseki was at the station to appeal to men of the force to return to their duty posts which they vacated following the nationwide angst against the police.

The two suspected armed robbers had come out very early in the morning robbing market women and passersby, before luck ran out on them.

They had, apparently, capitalized on the absence of policemen, following the burning by alleged hoodlums of three police stations at St Saviour, Ugbegun and Idogbo to rob.
