How Flood Displaces Scores, Kills 10 In Adamawa

Dr. Suleiman Muhammad, the executive secretary of the emergency management agency for Adamawa State, has stated that floods in some areas of the Girei Local Government Area of the state had resulted in the deaths of ten people and the displacement of dozens more.

In a phone conversation with our reporter, he said that the occurrence took place in Jabbi Lamba town, the Girei Local Government Areas, Adamawa, and its surroundings on Thursday amid the severe downpour.

He claims that while four corpses have yet to be found, six have already been found.

He explained, “The disaster is not unconnected to torrential rainfalls which lasted over 15 hours across the state. Six corpses have been recovered while four others are still missing. The natural disaster led to the hospitalisation of three kids after a building collapsed on them in the town.”

He said his agency has sent out a distress call to National Emergency Agency and other humanitarian bodies, adding that an assessment team was detailed on Friday to visit affected communities to ascertain the level of damage caused by the flood.
