Peddling of fake results of yesterday’s National Assembly and Presidential elections almost engulfed Oyo State with violence but for the timely intervention of the police.

It had therefore warned citizens against peddling of fake results or be ready for the law enforcement agencies.

Sokesman of the Oyo Police Command, SP Adewale Osifeso said they perceive such fake results peddling as calculated attempt to heat up the polity and possible create post-election violence, warning citizens to desist.

According to him, peddling fake results on social media and other news platforms ran contrary to the policy and guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and culpable individuals would be appropriately prosecuted, he warned.

“It took the timely intervention of law enforcement personnel to calm the situation.

“The Command perceives this trend as a calculated attempt to heat up the polity and possibly create post elections chaos.

“To this end the Oyo State police wishes to appeal to Parents, Guardians and leaders wielding different degrees of influence to prevail on their Children against been used to disrupt the polity,” he said.

The police spokesman added the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Williams advised residents to go about their lawful businesses without fear of harassment or molestation.

He said the necessary precautions in terms of comprehensive security had been provided for citizens by the police and that the former should go about their lawful businesses without fear.
