How Armed Guards Shot At Journalist For Filming Escaping Prisoners

It would have been midday tragedy for a journalist on lawful duty but whose action had been viewed differently by prison’s armed guards.

The guards from the Benin Custodial Centre on Sapele Road, Benin aimed and shot at him for filming the prisoners escaping from the Benin Custodial Centre, popularly called “White House’’.

The journalist, Mr ken Osaretin-Efe, is a judiciary journalist with Edo broadcasting Service, now lives with the scare of the attempted charge at his life by the armed guards.

“I thank God I escaped flying gun bullets and I am safe”, he said, adding the two prison’s Armed guards just started firing at him once they saw him filming, after suspected hoodlums beat the security and broke into the centre, causing jailbreak.

“The two Prison’s Armed Guards, one putting on green native and the other on Jeans and white polo with black design were initially firing at the protesters.

“Upon seeing me videoing the escaping inmates, the prison’s armed guard turned and started firing at me.

It was reported that the suspected hoodlums also succeeded in breaking into Oko medium custodian centre in Benin, causing jailbreak.

The Eagle investigation shows that the prison guards also gunned down two End SARS protesters prisons break, but it was not clear whether in desperation to get the escapees or out of carelessness.

The streets of Benin, like the case in many other cities across country had remained restive since the EndSARS revolution began.

Protesters had taken control of key roads in the city, making bornfires and barricading roads in a display of anger over what is believed to be excessiveness of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
