How 8 Nigerian Immigration Officers Lost Their Treasured Jobs

Ask some Nigerians the federal parastatals they would like to work in, 7 out of 10 are likely to mention the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS)

Their smart uniforms and easily identifiable insignia has indeed remained an attraction for many a job seekers, but 8 officers have just lost the opportunity.

They have just been dismissed by the Federal Government over alleged involvement in various acts of misconduct.

Another five were compulsorily retired; eight had their ranks reduced while two junior personnel were dismissed from service.

Criminal acts mentioned in connection with the sanctioning of these Nigerian Immigration officials, included kidnapping, stealing and illegal possession of firearms.

The news of their dismissal and retirement were contained in a statement by the public relations officer of the NIS, Akinsola Akinlabi.

It said this followed recommendations of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) Disciplinary and General-Purpose Committee, which sat on July 11, 2025.

It said the disciplinary committee reviewed 31 cases involving personnel and officers of the NIS, adding:

“Eight officers were dismissed from service for serious misconduct and violation of regulations. In addition, five officers were compulsorily retired for offences bordering on misconduct, while eight officers were demoted by one rank.”

Five officers were issued with written warning letters for misconduct, while the Board also reviewed the appeal of dismissal of two officers, but rejected it due to lack of merit.

“One officer is to be reinstated following a successful appeal, while the Board exonerated two officers against charges preferred against them”, Akinlabi, an Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, stated.
