Hon Soneye Promises To Push For Devt of Ibafo Community

Hon. Kayode Soneye, the member representing Obafemi Owode constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly, has promised to push for development of the area.

He also advised youths in the constituency to avail themselves of the job portal created by the sate government.

He gave the advice at the weekend, when a delegation of the Ajose Community Development Council paid him a courtesy visit.

He promised to continue to push for more development initiatives in the area, adding that all those in need of employment should apply via the portal.

He also promised to sink a borehole in Asese Community School as a way of enhancing the people’s access to good water.

According to Soneye, he had resolved to work to improve the socio-economic condition of Ibafo as a true representative of the people.

He however observed that as much as the state government was committed to improving the condition of the people by providing development, but that the funds available were not just enough for these.

The CDC delegation included Comrade Oyetunde Muyiwa, the Youth Leader; Mr Adelaja Bisi, Community Leader; Barrister Sylvester Omon, Ajose CDC Legal Adviser; Prophet Aderanti Solomon, Community member; Olufemi Ajadi O, youth activist; Mr. Augustine Okocha, Community member; Mr. Olugbenga Awoeyo, Financial Adviser and Mr. Peter Ezekiel, member.

The leader of the team, Comrade Muyiwa explained that the visit was to discuss specific areas where the community needed government intervention.

Muyiwa said the the youth was not there for any selfish agenda but in the interest of the generality of the community.

He said they decided to pay the visit worried that Ibafo had been marginalized for many years under different governments.

“WE are concerned that if we don’t take steps, things may continue to happen the same way, and we will continue to be marginalized.

Other issues which the delegation complained about included the the issue of poor drainage, refuse disposal, mentioning particularly that the refuse disposal scheme in place in the area was insufficient for the amount of refuse currently being generated.

In a related development, a nonpartisan, nongovernmental group, the Gateway Media Organisation in Ogun state, had, last month, urged the state government to prioritise issues concerning environments, particularly waste management.

A report from Alternative Africa quoted the group as saying that the menace of rising  environmental degradation in many parts of Ogun metropolis occasioned by indiscriminate dumping of refuse around the town was displeasing.

In a statement released in Abeokuta, the convener of the Gateway Media Organisation, GMO, Omooba Damilare Oloyede charged those in the ministry of environment to up their ante in the issues of waste management, and make Ogun clean deservingly.

“We need to charge those in the ministry of environment to sit up, up the ante and show concerted efforts in the issue of management of waste. Environmental degradation in our metropolis is too glaring and has constituted too much of embarrassment to us as citizens and residents of one of the most enlightened state”, he said.
