‘He Was About To Open His Gates, When They Shot Him At Close Range’

He was about to open his gates, when they shot him at close range, yet all through the drive from town, nothing gave him the inkling that he was being trailed by gunmen.

Close by his gate, he must have heaved a sigh of relief of another safe return home but at that moment when he was about to open the gate, the gunmen attacked shot at him at a close range

This was Sunday night, at about 10pm and the former Works Director at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Hassan Jama’are lay dead.

His killing by gunmen has since stirred neighbours in the Tudun Salmanu area of Bauchi metropolis where he resided with his family.

More worrisome is that it follows the killing of anther two persons in the area, in just 24 hours, making some wonder if the area is now the target of gunmen.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Ahmed Wakil, said, while speaking to Punch: “the gunmen had trailed him and when he got to his house and was about to open the gate, they attacked him and shot at him at a close range. They also seized his Honda Accord car keys and drove it away.”

He added that Jama’are managed to crawl into the house and his family raised an alarm which attracted neighbours to the scene.

“The Police was informed and he was rushed to a hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor,” the PPRO added.

He said Police operatives have been drafted to the area while the gunmen are being trailed by the Police in order to apprehend them.

The Eagle recalls that last August, gun men had trailed and shot a member representing Baraza Dass Constituency in the Bauchi Assembly Hon. Musa Mante.

Gunmen murdered the lamaker in his residence in Dass Local Government Area.

Not only that, they also abducted his two wives and one-year- old daughter.

While confirming the incident then, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Bauchi Command, Ahmed Wakili, gave the names of the abducted wives as Rashida Musa Mante, 40; Rahina Musa Mante 35 and one-year-old daughter Fausar Musa Mante.
