Police Uniform

What would make an ordinary civilian to steal police uniform, if not for a false sense of boldness or is it smartness?

Anyway, one man, who not only attempted so, but went ahead to use it to commit other crimes, now has a better understanding.

He has been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, unsure what other bitter lessons await him.

Other things which the police say were stolen by the 22-year-old Onipede Ojo were a camouflage uniform, warrant card, mobile phone, ATM card and other belongings belonging to an officer identified as Inspector Jimoh Weheed.

In those borrowed garbs, he had acted strangely alerting the suspicion of members of the public who promptly began to question him.

The police quickly moved in and apprehended him.

Upon questioning, he said he found the camouflage uniform, along Maryland Road in Lagos, a narrative which the police consider as cook and bull story.

Police preliminary findings indicate that the suspect allegedly used the stolen uniform to secure undue advantage beginning by presenting himself as a police officer, an action that constitutes impersonation under Nigerian law.

While taking in the suspect, the command warns Lagos residents to remain security-conscious.

They have also been advised the public to continue to collaborate with security agencies to forestall criminal acts.
