Hausa Community Responds To Sanwoolu On Okada Ban

Hausa community in Lagos, the Lagos State Arewa Community (LASACOMM) has responded to the ban placed on Okada by the Lagos state government.

It has directed its members to comply with the provisions of the laws and continue to be law abiding residents of the state.

In a communique made available by its Secretary General, Musa Saleh on Sunday, the community calls on all well-meaning Arewa Community members to comply with the common resolve of the community to avoid Apapa, Surulere, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, Etiosa and Ikeja local governments as ordered by the government.

He noted that the restriction of Commercial Motorcycle (Okada) operators in some Local Governments in Lagos State is not a new law and that it has been in existence for over 10 years.  The communique partly reads: “We resolved unanimously that all our members must comply with the provisions of the laws of Lagos State.”

The community condemned the activities of all criminal elements, believed to be mostly foreigners from neighbouring countries, who have infiltrated the ranks of genuine riders and perpetrating all forms of crime in Lagos and constituting serious threats to lives and property of residents.

The community also charges Security agencies and the Immigration services to step up their constitutional duties by identifying and arresting criminal elements and preventing influx of criminal element from foreign countries at the border.

“We are in total commitment and support to the administrative policies of the Lagos State Government getting rid of all security threats, promoting peace and tranquility, safeguarding lives and property of Lagos and the massive provision and development of infrastructure facilities for all Lagosians. The communique partially reads.

The community promised to work with the state government and the Association of Arewa Okada Riders towards the implementation of extant rules and documentation of all riders in all Local Governments of Lagos State.
