Hacking To Death of Tricycle Rider By Lunatic Actually Tragic because…

Hacking to death of a tricycle (okada) operator, Mr. Elias Ofoke, by an alleged lunatic in Abakaliki as we earlier reported is actually a cruel death, The Eagle additional findings have shown.

This is  partly because his death has now created a huge vacuum in the family.

The tricycle rider was bread winner for his family of six children, and one of the concerns is how the entire family would cope now that he is gone.

Also tragic is the manner in which the hacking to death of Late Ofoke, who hailed from Agbaja Unuhu in Abakaliki Local Government Area of the state, took place.

His assailant, suspected to be mentally deranged was usually found near Udensi Bridge in Abakiliki metropolis in Ebonyi State.

On this day in question, some people had beaten up earlier and when the man wanted to retaliate, upon recovering, he chose the wrong person, someone who was on his daily run of conveying passengers to earn his pay.

Other accounts intimate that what fueled the lunatic’s rage was an attempted arrest by members of state security outfit popularly known as Neighborhood Watch.

“The man resisted the arrest which led to his torturing by members of the Neighborhood Watch.

“So, not quite long, the deceased okada man dropped his passenger near the scene and while he was about to move his bike he was suddenly attacked by the man who was yet to recover from the beatings” Daily Trust report added.

“The deceased was hit on the head by the madman”, the source added.

In an interview, the state chairman, Motorcycle Transport Union, Comrade Paulinus Atam, said the union had never recorded such case since his emergence as chairman.

The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Border Peace, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, confirmed the incident.

Since he was just an innocent person who happened by at the wrong time, supposedly, many see the hacking by the lunatic as a sad omen, not ordinary.
