‘Govt Should Remove Monarchs Who Reside Outside Their Domains’

Traditional rulers who reside outsdie their domains should be compeled to relocate home of be removed from office.

This is the advise of the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Ohaji/Egbema, Imo State, Rt. Revd Chidi Collins Oparaojiaku to Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinma.

There are currently 700 autonomous communities in the state but some of their traditional rulers operate from outside their domains, usually the state capital, sometimes from towns totally outside the state.

Rt. Revd Chidi Collins Oparaojiaku believes that this could not augur well for peace and development of the domains and says the government should dethrone such monarchs.

According to him, staying within home would help monarchs ensure peace and harmony in their domains.

His advice is coming amidst increasing levels of crime, especially kidnapping and money rituals in the state.

“The office of those who refuse to take up residence in their communities should be advertised for willing people who are ready to take up the challenge”, he is quoted in Tribune as saying.

He made reference to governors not administering from outside their states, querying why the reverse should be the case with traditional rulers.

Rt. Revd Chidi Collins Oparaojiaku warned warned that insecurity would continue unabated as long as the monarchs who are the custodians of their communities are allowed to take up residence in cities and countries  outside their domains,  saying some of the actually cause problems when they come home only to return to the ir peaceful abodes, leaving their subjects to stew in their messes.

Bishop Oparaojiaku spoke while delivering a  presidential address at the 2nd session of the 4th Synod of the Diocese, which had the theme “Mission As Never Before: Fundamentals. Epitomizing and Gospelizing our mandate,”.

The synod held at the Anglican Church of the Redeemer Orduga Umuokanne Parish Ohaji, Imo State.

He denounced  the security challenges in the state, the spate of extra-judicial killings, destruction of government facilities and deluge of military and police roadblocks, argued that one of the best ways to curb insecurity from local governments is to make the village heads or Ezes and President-Generals of various communities responsible for their localities.READ ALSO:
