Governor’s Bombshell: Cryptocurrency Ban By Buhari Done In Bad Faith

Cryptocurrency Ban – The Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi  Okowa has dropped what some may consider a bombshell, a criticism of the policy measures of President Muhammadu Buhari.

It has to do with the administration’s ban on Cryptocurrency trading in the country, which has left many entrepreneurs in the lurch.

Okowa, overviewing the policy yesterday, stated that it was not done in good faith, as the short and long-term implications were not considered by President Buhari administration.

Okowa, also the vice-presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in the 2023 general election, stated his position yesterday, at a Business Breakfast, which he and the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar graced.

Asserting that the ban on cryptocurrency was not the right decision, Okowa said: “In my opinion, I don’t think the right thing was done

“What they needed to do was to study the situation and educate our people more on it and put in regulatory processes that are workable”.

According to him, such processes would have created sufficient room for the dealers and their clients not to be take unawares, he said.

On the pervading issue of insecurity, Okowa said: “There is the need for intelligence gathering and coordination to be able to do the right thing and we must be in touch with all the stakeholders including traditional rulers and governors.

“Obviously there is a need for better equipment and all of these are contained in his policy document – My Covenant with Nigerians.

“I know that he (Atiku Abubakar) means it and he is one very humble and energetic Nigerian that is ready to work for the rescue and rebuilding of Nigeria,” Okowa stated.

Speaking on the primacy of girl-child empowerment as a key component of development, he said the administration in Delta State had recorded superlative success rate of 95 per cent with girl-child empowerment.

This he said, was against the national success rate of 20-25 per cent with other empowerment programmes.

He said this success rate was made possible by the introduction of mentoring and monitoring programmes for the young entrepreneurs.

“In Delta State, we have taken time to ensure that women became more visible in terms of entrepreneurship.“We have a special programme to develop our girl-child – the Girl-Child Entrepreneurship and Skills Training Programme (GEST)”, the governor stated.
