Governor Impeached For Bullying, Incitement, After Only 11…

A governor has been impeached from office for bullying others, incitement and others alleged breaches, barely 112 days in office.

Worse, the motion for the impeachment had been supported by all but one member of the assembly.

The ouster may have entered the names of Kawiru Mwangaza governor of Meru County in the Eastern province of Kenya, into the history books.

All of the 67 Members of Country Assembly (MCAs) present at the proceedings agreed to allegations of gross misconduct, mobilising unlawful riots against MCAs, bullying of colleagues, and gross violation of the Constitution and county amongst others.

Of the two members absent from the siting where the impeachment took place, one was sick while just the other objected to the impeachment.

Other charges against the female governor included nepotism, illegal appointments, and unlawful dismissals, usurpation of constitutional and statutory functions, vilification and misleading campaigns against other leaders.

She was equally accused of forced entry into the assembly and violation of public finance management laws

A report in The Nation indicates that MCAs dressed in black suit has begun the day with praise worship and prayer session before carrying out their act.

The impeached governor was also reported to have turned down the initiation to defend the allegations against her citing a court case trying to determine the legality or otherwise of moves to impeach her just three months in office.

Speaker Ayub Bundi has dismissed these saying she was duly served and that a letter from the lawyer cannot stop the house proceedings.

While tabling the motion, Abogeta West MCA and Minority Whip Dennis Kiogora, Mr Kiogora said the governor had continued to break the law even after the impeachment process started.

“The only cure to the wrongs and lawlessness committed by the governor is impeachment. There is no law that allows the governor to recruit staff or establish committees without following due process. She has continued to bully elected leaders and behave as if we are in a banana republic,” Mr Kiogora said.
