Godwin Emefiele, CBN Governor States His Focus For 2023

Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has stated what his focus is i2023, , when the nation would be electing a new president.

Emefiele has been variously touted as a hopeful for the exalted office, but the banking czar says his focus is rather on strengthening the nation’s economy rather than bidding for the office of the president.

In a series of tweets on his Twitter handle @GodwinIEmefiele, the CBN Governor said his commitment at this time was to hive all support to ensure that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari finished strong.

The CBN governor spoke against the backdrop of several groups and individuals rooting for him to join the race for the presidency come next year.

The Eagle recalls that groups of youths across the country, in their hundreds, had stormed the the Eagles Square Convention ground of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja recently in Emefiele’s branded apparels.

Ostensibly worried by the interpretation that would attend the action of the youths, the CBN governor picked his handles tweeting thus:

“My focus at this time is a robust monetary policy and fighting inflation which is now a global problem; building a strong financial system in an increasingly uncertain global economy; Development finance and supporting farmers & manufacturers in our self-sufficiency and import substitution drive; raising N15 trillion for InfraCo infrastructure financing;

“Building a world class International Financial Center in Lagos; as we support the @MBuhari Administration to finish strong.”

Godwin Emefiele was appointed the CBN governor on June 4, 2014, and 16 May 2019, the Senate approve his re-appointment for a second term of five years.
