‘Go To Court If You Are Not Ok With Wike’s Executive Orders’

Anybody who is not comfortable with the executive orders issues by the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike should go to court.

This is the position of a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Chief Onueze Okocha in his reaction to controversial executive orders empowering the governor to taking necessary measures to curtail the spread of coronavirus in the state.

 According to him, the executive orders and other such actions taken by the government in the state were well thought out and well advised and should actually be supported by the residents.

 “I believe strongly that the measures are taken by the Rivers State Government, particularly the Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike are well thought out, well advised and I believe that they will to a large extent help us to avoid or at least minimize to the barest level the spread of this coronavirus that they now say causes the illness they called COVID-19.”

 “And the Executive Orders put in place by the State Governor are appropriate. Everybody accepts that they are calculated to secure our safety and to reduce to the barest minimum the spread of this coronavirus. So I don’t believe that anybody has quarreled with any of these orders.”

“What I have heard are people flouting those orders and Nigerians some times do not understand, some of these measures put in place, some of these regulations, these laws and orders are for their own good, and everybody should do each of their very best to comply with them.”

He noted that it was on this basis that the Rivers State Government put in place the Quarantine Coronavirus (COVID-19) and other Infectious Diseases Regulations No. 2 of 2020 which is also in line with Quarantine Act of the Federal Government.

In the recent, the governor has been in the news in his resolve to ensure people complied with the necessary step towards containing the virus in the state.

In his very outspoken nature, he had accused the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the state, Adamu Abubakar, of sabotaging the lockdown of the state.

Speaking after a monitoring exercise of the compliance level of the lockdown in the state, the governor said, “It is unfortunate to see the level of sabotage that we get from the police, particularly the deputy commissioner of police, Operations, Rivers State Police Command.

“The deputy commissioner of police will sign approvals for companies because he wants to collect money. I am the governor of this state and there cannot be two governors.”
