Gnashing Of Teeth At Daleko As LASG Descends On Shanties

There was gnashing of teeth here and there at the popular Daleko Market In Mushin Lagos where the state government began demolishing shanties.

Those affected were the once blocking drainage system and encroaching on the road, and some of the owners were seen running helter skelter, according to a source.

Officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) were equal to the task, removing shanties and other structures distorting the state’s environmental master plan.

The Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, had before now, reiterated that the state government would the State remained livable for all residents.

In fact, that was the crux of his Y2024 Annual Ministerial Press briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre Alausa, where he bemoaned the degrading of the Lagos environment by some residents.

It was in pursuit of the cleaner and environmental friendly Lagos, that his men descended on Daleko, bringing down illegal structures that had made the area an eyesore.

In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the commissioner wrote:

“Clearance operations ongoing at Daleko Market, Mushin to remove shanties and makeshift structures built on drainage and the road”, with which he also shared videos of the shanties dismantling exercise.

Giving the level of indiscipline on the part of builders, there is no doubt that the gnashing of teeth would be witnessed in other parts of the state soon, even as the government continues in its bid to clean up the state.
