Girl, 16, Kidnap By Couple In Ogun, Sent To Burkina Faso As Maid

Godday and Ebere Samuel were detained by Ogun State police officers on suspicion of being involved in human trafficking.

Prior to the journey being thwarted, the pair was charged with trafficking a 16-year-old girl to Burkina Faso.

This was revealed in a statement released on Monday by SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state’s police public relations officer.

According to Oyeyemi, the suspects were detained as a result of a report made by Adeniji Okikiolu to the Atan-Ota divisional headquarters.

Oyeyemi claims that Okikiolu reported that his 16-year-old daughter, Maria Adeniji, abruptly vanished from home on October 16, 2022, and that while a search party was being organized to seek for her, he was alerted by someone that the missing girl had been seen with Ebere Samuel the day before.

He said, “Upon the information, Ebere Samuel was invited to the station, but she vehemently denied ever seeing the missing girl on or before that day.

“Not satisfied with her plea of alibi, she was subsequently detained at the station.

“But surprisingly, when her husband was contacted, the husband confessed to having taken the missing Maria to somewhere in Lagos for onward transportation to Burkina Faso where she will be engaged as a maid to one of their associates.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the couple has been into the business of human trafficking for some time now and that their accomplices are in Burkina Faso.”

However, the PPRO said that Lanre Bankole, the police commissioner, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labor branch for covert investigation and assiduous prosecution.
