Gary Neville Blames Two Players Amid Chaos In Man Utd Dressing Room

Two players, in Gary Neville’s opinion, are negatively impacting the Manchester United locker room under Erik ten Hag.

With three losses in their first five Premier League games, Manchester United’s 2023–24 season has gotten off to a somewhat disastrous start.

Erik ten Hag’s team suffered a 3-1 loss against Brighton on the first day of domestic play following the break for international play, which drew a lot of criticism.

For all the on-field issues that the club are facing, there are also several problems off the pitch that are distracting the club, with Gary Neville identifying two players whose off-field problems are “damaging” the dressing room.

“[Ten Hag] will continue to keep doing what he is doing, which is following his beliefs, his values, his principles,” he said on Sky Sports. “The only thing I would say is, how popular is Sancho in the dressing room? How popular is Maguire in the dressing room.

“This discomfort and uncertainty is being created on the inside. You have got a player at the moment, who is probably changing in the first-team dressing room but is obviously over with the academy.

“You’ve got Harry Maguire, who, by the way, was the captain of these players a year ago, and who is now the third, fourth, or fifth-choice center-back, almost to the point of alienation.

“So, he has some situations in there, but I’m not sure how much harm they are doing. Erik ten Hag won’t change, though, in terms of his job on the pitch, and the truth is that Manchester United has presented obstacles to many fine managers over the past 10 to 12 years since Sir Alex Ferguson left,” Gary Neville said.
