It is pathetic that many Nigerian politicians no longer care about integrity, accountability, or service to the people. All that matters to them is power grab at all costs and looting the nation’s common wealth. What a shame.
Across Nigeria’s political space, leadership has become a struggle for personal gain rather than national development. Many of those seeking power are not driven by vision, competence, or patriotism, but by selfish ambition and control. Politics has become a business of power grabbing, manipulation, and endless looting, while the masses continue to suffer in poverty and hardship.
The sad reality is that many politicians show little sympathy for ordinary Nigerians. Their concern is not the suffering of the people, but the protection of themselves, their families, and their cronies. Meanwhile, insecurity, unemployment, poor infrastructure, inflation, and hopelessness continue to grow across the country.
How long can Nigeria continue like this?
If care is not taken, Nigeria may face deeper national crises like other troubled nations around the world. Yet many politicians behave as if nothing is wrong. They believe that once the masses are kept poor and desperate, they can easily be controlled with small handouts during elections. This dangerous mentality has weakened public trust and damaged the nation’s democracy.
No Democracy, Only Imposition: The Bitter Reality of Nigerian Politics
Today, many Nigerians believe there is little or no internal democracy within political parties. What is often called “primary elections” has in many cases become mere imposition. Candidates are forced on party members and citizens, while individuals with questionable records and corruption allegations continue to dominate the political system.

This is why many citizens now see Nigerian elections as “ballots without choice” — where power is forced on the people rather than freely decided by them.
Democracy has gradually been hijacked by political godfathers, money politics, and desperate power seekers who see leadership as an opportunity for personal enrichment instead of public service.
How did we get here as a nation?
Nigeria, blessed with enormous human and natural resources, should not be struggling like this. Unfortunately, years of poor leadership, corruption, greed, and lack of accountability have pushed many citizens into frustration and hopelessness.
A Call for Hope and National Rescue
Despite the disappointment and anger many Nigerians feel about this power grab syndrome, citizens must not lose hope completely. There are still honest, competent, and patriotic Nigerians who genuinely care about the future of the country.
People with integrity, vision, and good character must become more involved in the political process. Nigerians who truly believe in service, justice, and national progress should rise and participate actively in elections and leadership.
The future of Nigeria cannot be left in the hands of selfish politicians alone. The country needs leaders who see power as a responsibility to serve, not an opportunity to loot.
Nigeria can still rise again, but only if citizens demand accountability, reject bad leadership, and support credible individuals who are committed to rebuilding the nation.
