Four Feared Dead As Flood Wreaks Havoc at Ilepo

A perspective of the flooding when it rains in Lagos

The residents of Adeniji and Adenekan streets in the Ile-Epo, Orile Agege area of Lagos are still lamenting their woes following the heavy rains that fell on Monday, October 29.

Four children were rumoured to have drowned in the floods caused by the rain, while many people lost different kinds of property to the floods.

The heavy down pour which came in the night reportedly led to an overflow of drainage channels, leading to a flooding of the streets.

Even traders’ containers, kiosks and tricycles commonly known as Keke Marwa were reportedly carted away by the floods.

And for those homes close to canals, they had the floods invading their homes.

A tenant of one of the flooded homes simply identified as  Iya Precious, told our correspondent that she woke up at about 1am to empty her bowels only to discover that her room had been flooded.

She said she could only leave the house with her cellphone, and those of her children.

Investigations show that some other residents affected by the flood had to take refuge in their friends’ or neigbours’ houses.

But displaced residents were sighted trying to rearrange their properties.

One of them who simply identified herself as Iya Pelumi said she had never experienced such a kind of rain and flood in her life, saying that she also lost a table she used for display of her wares.

Several other residents of the area were still counting their loses as at the time our correspondent arrived the area.

They called on the Lagos State government to do something about the poor drainage situation in the area.
