Flawed Presidential Election: More Nigerians Share Their Opinions

On account of what they consider a generally flawed presidential election, Nigerians have continued to criticise the the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

Aside the reactions on social media, some respondents told our reporter that the APC is to blame for what happened in the presidential election.

Some say the APC was overconfident about the election and actually worked to be favoured rather than allow the process go unhindered.

“For the first time, the people were willing to vote not for political parties, but for individuals of their choice, especially the youths”, was how one of the respondents put it.

Another respondent, Mrs Fatima Aishat, an APC supporter said of the election: ; “This is the most horrible election ever experienced since I started voting in 1983.

“This is the first time ever,  I witnessed an election with a massive audience coming out to vote.

“The biggest mistake APC and other political parties made was; underestimating the youths.

“INEC’S failure to provide a free and fair election, won’t stop this country from becoming successful in the long run”, she said.

A student of the University of Lagos (Unilag), Miss Lawrence Rufus, Looks forward to a greater Nigeria despite the criticisms in the conduct of the election.

She said amongst others, that, “The election has been mentally draining. It shows that people are willing to exercise their rights as citizens.

“People should consider the fact that it is our country. We need to work together to bring a change”.

Also, a wholesaler at Iyana Ipaja market, Mr Chuks Lucky, urges Nigerians to shun Political Apathy, but to participate in the process as a way of ensuring that quality candidates are elected.

He also suggests voter education on a continuing basis to enable Nigerians make better choices in who to elect during elections.

The education, according to him, would also help to checkmate people taking the laws into their hands when the elections do not favour them.
