Five-Star Arsenal Make UCL History Against Lens

Arsenal made Champions League history as they wreaked havoc in the first half of their clash against Lens on Wednesday.

The Gunners’ thrilling first-half display against the French team at the Emirates has them dancing their way into the Champions League last 16 as group leaders. Their lead was 5-0 prior to the half, thanks to goals from Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli. In Europe’s ‘s top-flight cup competition, Mikel Arteta’s team made history by being the first English team to lead by so many goals at the half.

The North London team scored four goals in a 15-minute blitzkrieg before their captain, Martin Odegaard, added another just before halftime. In the first 27 minutes, they scored four goals, tying Manchester United for the fastest English team record. Those minutes propelled them to yet another record-breaking feat. Interestingly, the Red Devils accomplished this against Brondby during the 1998–1999 season—the same year they won the record treble.

Havertz has been in scintillating form this November as he netted his third goal in four matches. The German international once again ghosted into space to slot beyond Lens keeper Brice Samba from close range after Gabriel Jesus set him up with a flick-on.

Arsenal will sail into the knockouts by finishing top of Group B, irrespective of their result against PSV away from home on December 12. After the dominant victory in Europe, Arteta will now shift focus to the Premier League where they are set to host Wolves next on Saturday.
