Female Soldier Guns Down Senior Colleague At Checkpoint

In a typical dog-eats-dog scenario, a female soldier today shot and killed her senior colleague while trying to enforce a restriction order from higher quarters.

While the female soldier is a Lance Corporal, the dead counterpart was a captain, in an incident that took place at the Fire Service Round About in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.  

The source told Daily Trust that the female soldier had been stationed to enforce the curfew order imposed by the state government after hoodlums had invaded the government warehouse and looted items.

The looted items included palliatives meant to help cushion the harshness of the fuel subsidy removal and her effort to maintain the directive led to an argument.

The report said the female soldier, Lance Corporal Nkiru had insisted compliance with the governor’s order turning back motorists who were returning home during the curfew, and this resulted in an altercation. .

 “Some people stopped at the check point explained themselves as workers on essential duties but the female soldier insisted they must turn back.

“A captain came forward to intervene. Unfortunately she had already cocked her rifle, so she just fired and killed him accidentally,” a security officer said.

At the Federal Medical Centre, Yola where the captain was rushed to, he was confirmed dead, while the female soldier was immediately arrested and taken away by soldiers.

The Eagle reports that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, had last week declared a 24-hour curfew to curtail the activities of hoodlums in the state.

A statement by Humwashi Wonosikou, the governor’s chief press secretary, had justified the curfew as a way of containing the hoodlums, adding that anyone who failed to comply with no-movement directive

“The Governor of Adamawa State, the Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has declared a 24-hour curfew on the state, effective immediately Sunday 30th July, 2023,” the statement reads.

 “Governor Fintiri said the curfew followed the dangerous dimension the activities of hoodlums had assumed across the state capital as they attack people with machete and break into business premises and homes carting away property.

“With the curfew imposed, there will be no movement throughout the state”, adding that only those on essential duty would be allowed movement.

The question is, now that a female soldier trying to enforce the curfew has gunned down a colleague at a checkpoint, what happens next.
