Fearless And Gallant Soldier Buried In Jos, Colleagues Give Tributes

Fearless and gallant soldier, whose death would leave a huge vacuum, was how he was described by some who knew him while alive.
His interment at his residence in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau.
provided the ample opportunity for these colleagues of former Director of Military Intelligence, Retired Maj.-Gen. Dung Chong, the governor, and others, to give their tributes.
And they could recall a soldier that was committed to his professional calling.
Among those who spoke were Maj.-Gen. Bala Isandu, who, representing the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya, said Chong was a “fearless and gallant soldier”.
“He was a dedicated, hardworking, loyal and gallant senior officer who rose to become the Director of Military Intelligence.

“He was a patriotic and thorough soldier, who sacrificed for this nation”, recalled Lt. Gen Yahaya, who added that late Chong’s contributions to the Nigerian Army would not be forgotten.
Echoing the above, the state governor, Simon Lalong, represented by Mr Dan Majang, the Plateau Commissioner of Information and Communication, added that the late Chong was a humble, disciplined personality, leader and mentor.
Lalong said that a proof of this assertion was Chong’s examplary service, kindness, and diligence.
According to him, Chong was professionalism throughout his career, leaving behind a legacy that would live for a long time.
On his part, Gov. Simon Lalong described the deceased as a humble, disciplined personality, leader and mentor, who helped in building Nigerian army.
Lalong represented by Mr Dan Majang, the Plateau Commissioner of Information and Communication, said that Chong record of service attests to his kindness, brilliance, diligence and professionalism throughout his career.
Lalong added that the late army general has left good legacies that would stand the test of time, adding that he would be remembered for his dexterity and friendship.

Another dignitary who showered encomiums on the late Chong was Sen. Istifanus Gyang, representing Plateau North in the National Assembly.
He described Chong as an accomplished military officer who has displayed immense patriotism and professionalism in the discharge of his duty.
Unassuming, dedicated and committed were some of the adjectives which former Governor of Plateau, Sen. Jonah Jang, lavished on Chong.
Jang was represented by Former Chief of Staff Government House, Da Francis Bot.
