Ex-Man City Forward Aguero Bizarrely Claims Man United Are Title Contenders 

Sergio Aguero has bizarrely tipped Manchester United to be title challengers, alongside Newcastle and Tottenham, as they fight with Manchester City.

Given their current poor run of play, even the most sanguine Red Devil supporter would struggle to think that Erik ten Hag’s team had what it takes to take over England in May. They are now in seventh place with 28 points from 17 games, 11 behind league leaders Arsenal, having lost 12 of their 25 games played so far this season.

Aguero believes United can win the championship despite their dismal performance and called them the “biggest threats” to City’s hopes of retaining their title.

Speaking to Stake.com, Aguero said: “You can never sleep on Man United at this stage of the season. They are one of the biggest threats to Man City’s Premier League title. I also think Tottenham are title contenders, who have improved a lot under Ange Postecoglou. Even despite their ups and downs, Newcastle are also in with a chance of the title as they always put up a fight.”

Aguero also praised his countryman Alejandro Garnacho for an incredible overhead kick reminiscent of Cristiano Ronaldo against Everton, saying the Argentine’s effort surpassed Wayne Rooney’s heroics in the 2011 Manchester derby.

“Wheeeew, what a goal! That has to be the best goal of 2023,” he added. “When I saw it, I was awestruck. It’s not easy to score a goal like that. Garnacho’s goal and Rooney’s goal against City are both great goals. For the physical prowess behind them, and the sheer beauty of the goal. But I chose Garnacho’s for one major reason, Rooney scored against City!”

United’s recent Premier League encounter against Liverpool ended in a hard-fought goalless draw, which should give them more confidence going into a hectic holiday stretch that will see them play three games in eight days. On Saturday, they will start their adventure against West Ham in London. On December 26 and 30, they will play Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, respectively.
