Ex-internationals commend The Eagle for Legendary Awards

Two ex-international football players, Peter Rufai and Henry Nwosu (MON), have commended the organisers of The Eagle Awards & Banquet for the initiative of recognisng outstanding Nigerian sportsmen.

The ex-international spoke against the background of the awards presentations which took place on Sunday 8, March in Lagos.

Rufai and Nwosu not only played for then national team, The Super Eagles, but have been involved in grooming upcoming players.

Their messages were relayed via electronic communication said the organisers have done well in remembering them adding that this would motivate the upcoming ones in line with the philosophy of the awards.

According to Rufai, It is rare in Nigeria to see organisations honouring the sports people who have done excellently well in the development of sports in Nigeria.

He therefore said for that reason, alone, that The Eagle as an organisation deserved commendation. The sports legend who sent his message of appreciation through WhatsApp, praised The Eagle for its uncommon award ceremony.

“I very much appreciate this eagle award. I am saying a big thank you for giving me the Evergreen Impact Award for Sports Development in Nigeria. I also commend you for recognising others that have been recognised through sports platform,” he said.

In his reaction, Mr Nwosu opined that rewarding those who had served well would serve as a motivating tonic for others.

He also urged the public to applaud the organizers for the good thinking. “When those that have done extraordinary well in sports arena are being celebrated as The Eagle Awards & has done, those serving our great country, Nigera, at the moment will be encouraged to do their best possible to move the country forward. We need more of this commemoration from other organisations,” he said.

Another awardee in sports is Dcn Malachy Ndubuzor of the Mike Okonkwo Football Competition (MOFC) who took away the trophy for grassroots sports development award applauded initiative adding that it would further boost his commitment.

According to him, the lesson clear, that whatever noble engagement that one is invivled in, that one should remain committed to it.

Earlier during the celebration, Lagos socialite and chairman on the occasion, Otunba T.J Abass, had stressed the importance of selfless service, saying it is a good way to contribute to the development of any society.

“If the leaders are selfless, the leaders will be selfless. The selfless leaders will always remember their followers when they get at the top,” he said
