E-Learning: University Opens Lagos Study Centre

Nigeria’s e-learning activities have got another boost with the opening of a well-equipped study centre in Lagos.
Miva Open University just announced the unveiling of its Lagos Study Centre, featuring a digital E-Library, a 197-computer CBT centre, and modern study rooms
aimed at redefining educational experience and boosting learning in the country.
The launch ceremony is billed for today in the Yaba area of Lagos, with the university saying it represented a major step in its vision to make learning more accessible, flexible and community-driven.
The Chancellor of Miva Open University, Mr Sim Shagaya, said, “This centre is a testament to our belief that learning should be flexible, accessible, and supported by a community that encourages growth.”
Beyond academics, Shagaya mentioned that the university has prioritised student well-being by integrating lifestyle-enhancing features.
“These additions reflect the university’s commitment to fostering a holistic student experience,” he added.
Also, the Registrar, Mr Iheanyi Akwitti, said, “From modern study rooms to state-of-the-art computer facilities, we are providing a space that is not only conducive to learning but also supports their well-being.”

It further noted that the Lagos Study Centre offers a collaborative and focused learning environment, featuring a digital E-Library, a 197-computer CBT centre, and modern study rooms amongst other amenities to support both individual and group study needs.
“Miva’s bold move to establish a physical centre underscores its blended learning model, combining the flexibility of online education with the support of in-person facilities. With plans to expand across Nigeria, the Lagos Study Centre is just the beginning of a new era in student-focused education,” it stated.
The Miva initiative is coming at a time when greater emphasis is making learning more accessible, e-learning being a key component of the move.
Amongst many other advantages is its ability to cut commuting costs and make education accessible to many more.
