Don’t Let Love Blind You, Know Your Genotype –Sickle Cell Forum

“Love should not blind you. Knowing your genotype with a partner is vital. Obedience to medical advice ensures healthier families and stronger societal contributions”.

These were part of the admonitions traded at a ‘Sickle Cell Alma Awareness which aim was to educate students on genotype compatibility before marriage

The Gail Sickle Initiative held the programme in partnership with Trinity University,

The theme of the awareness programme was: ‘A holistic perspective on genotype compatibility’, held on Wednesday at Trinity University’s City Campus, Sabo Yaba, Lagos.

“Never compare yourself with others. Despite challenges, you can contribute meaningfully to society,” convener of the initiative, Oluwafemi Ajayi, told the participants.

She informed the audience that the aim of the initiative was to give back to society by promoting sickle cell awareness.

One of the things that intending couples must do before marriage, she said, was establish genotype compatibility before marriage.

This she said would save couples from emotional and health challenges.

She equally underscored the importance of people living with sickle cell building self-esteem.

One way they could do this, she added, was to never compare themselves with others.

Earlier,  the Vice-Chancellor of Trinity University (TU), Professor Clement Kolawole, had given an idea of how future generations could be preserved.

He said this would be made possible with advocacy for genotype compatibility.

The vice chancellor was represented at the event by Dr Isaac Fadeyi, Associate Professor of Mass Communication.
