Don’t Just Pray

Don’t Just Pray, government is giving out loans, go and apply. So is the advice of a Bishop to his congregation, while admonishing them against just praying and doing nothing.

In fact, he equally advised other pastors to advice his congregation to put in for the various government empowerment funds to better their financial lots.

Bishop Andrew Mwenda, who is the Executive Director of the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) gave the advice following his observation that many believers who were praying against poverty were at the same time shunning government empowerment programmes.

“Do not just pray and do nothing when Government is giving out loans and grants under CDF, go and apply,” he said.

Bishop Mwenda, the Lusaka Times reported, admonished his members that prayer alone was not a solution to poverty, as God expected every believer seeking to improve their lives to take action after praying.

Speaking during a Pastors’ Ordination ceremony held at the Reconciliation Ministries International Church in Chibombo District, he said it was disheartening that many believers were living in poverty when government is giving out loans and grants aimed at improving people’s livelihoods.

According to Bishop Mwenda, the government had allocated enough funds under the Citizens Economic Empowerment (CEEC) and the Constituency Development Funds (CDF) that church members should take advantage of.

He therefore urged the newly ordained pastors to engage civic leaders in their respective wards and familiarize themselves with CDF guidelines in order to access funds.

How to get empowered, the cleric said, was also a fundamental obligation that pastors owed their congregation, rather than feeding them with just the word of God.

The Eagle reports that the Bishop’s admonition indirectly tallies with the Bible at James 2:26 which urges believers on the necessity of putting their faith to action, by working, rather than just praying and expecting miracles.
