Al-Nassr superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his silence on the controversial gesture he made to fans after hearing Lionel Messi chants.

While representing Al-Nassr against Al-Shabab in the Saudi Pro League, Ronaldo attempted to clarify his contentious gesture in response to taunting directed against rival Lionel Messi. The Portuguese sensation has discussed the incident and is reportedly facing a fine and two-match suspension for his behaviour.

As per Saudi Arabian publication Al-Riyadiya, Ronaldo said in a statement: “I respect all clubs. And the joy after the shot expresses strength and victory, and it is not shameful. We are used to it in Europe.”

For his gesture, Ronaldo faces a suspension and a two-match ban, and Al-Nassr would undoubtedly suffer greatly without him. The Portuguese forward leads the division in Golden Boot rankings with 22 goals this season and has scored nine goals in his previous eight Saudi Pro League games.

According to Marca, Ronaldo is still awaiting word on whether he will be punished. The Disciplinary and Ethics Committee is likely to make a decision soon. He might be unable to play in the upcoming Saudi Pro League matches against Al-Hazem and Al-Raed if he is banned, but he would be eligible to play in Al-Nassr’s AFC Champions League encounter against Al Ain.
