COVID-19 Palliative –What States Govs Approved For The Poor

We present to you a dossier of the states which have made commitments to supplying vulnerable residents with COVID-19 palliatives in line with Federal Government directive.

This listing however, is not an affirmation that the so-called palliatives have actually reached those intended.

It behooves on you dear reader, to let us know what your state government has actually done in terms of supporting the vulnerable this trying season. Please read on:

Rivers state

-Gov Nyesom approved N2billion palliative for purchase of food items for the people.

-inaugurated a 24 man Committee for Distribution of Food Palliatives and another 32 man team for mop-up of foods from the nooks and crannies of the state.

Officials say the state’s COVID-19 Palliative Committee has distributed foodstuffs to vulnerable people, first to the homes for the elderly, motherless children and Remand centres. No cash is mentioned.

Lagos State

-offsetting medical bills incurred by patients admitted into public secondary and tertiary healthcare facilities for the duration of the lockdown

-Gov Sanwo-olu says state to bear medical expenses of pregnant women and other patients in emergency, casualty cases, laboratory testing and surgeries, the cost of any medication

Cross Rivers State

-Reports say Dr. Linda Ayade, wife of the Cross River State governor, has led a team on the distribution exercise across the eighteen local government areas in her state.

Blessing Egbara, the Commissioner for Humanity and Social Welfare, reportedly said officals in charge were using the World Bank register developed for one of its empowerment programmes to effect the distribution of food items to the people.

Delta

Setting up a food bank to help the vulnerable cushion the effects of the lockdown.

-distribution to begin from the ward level.

Political appointees are believed to have donated their one month salary to succor the vulnerable.

-Committees also directed to embark on the distribution of cash ot the poor.

Ekiti

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi says no fewer than 20,000 households being targeted for the government’s palliative measures

-State has flagged off the distribution of the relief materials at the Government House mostly food items for the poor across the 16 local government areas.

Kwara,

Came under heavy criticisms after the federal government flagged off its N20, 000 succour there.

The money reached 25, 000 people dashing the hopes of hundreds of thousands of others.

However,   Deputy Governor, Kayode Alabi who is the state chairman, Technical Committee on COVID-19 told reporters the government was considering palliative measures to support the poorest of the poor
