Chelsea Boss Pochettino Facing Fight To Save Job After 5-0 Arsenal Humbling

Mauricio Pochettino is fighting to retain his position as Chelsea’s manager following their Premier League crushing at the hands of Arsenal.

Tuesday brought Chelsea even more suffering following Arsenal’s crushing 5-0 victory at the Emirates. A young fan during the game also urged the players to “fight” for the shirt, and Pochettino later acknowledged that his squad was “so bad”. Pochettino, who is not yet assured a second season at the club, is under further pressure after the loss, according to The Telegraph. Despite having a horribly bad season, he still has some support at Stamford Bridge; nevertheless, a decision on his future has not yet been made.

When Pochettino joined in May 2023, he signed a two-year contract with an option for a further year, but he has presided over a dismal campaign. The Blues will struggle to earn a position in Europe and will end the season without a win. There hasn’t been much to shout about for Chelsea supporters, except from the signing of Cole Palmer, which has raised questions over Pochettino’s future. The Blues, who might need to trade players in order to abide with the Profit and Sustainability Rules, are also in for a busy summer.

Arsenal recorded their biggest-ever victory against Chelsea across all competitions on Tuesday. This was also the Blues’ heaviest defeat in a London derby since losing 6-0 to Queens Park Rangers in March 1986.

Pochettino still has six Premier League games left to try to hang onto his job, but he will have to contend with some difficult matches before the season is out. In the upcoming weeks, Chelsea will also play Brighton, West Ham, Tottenham, and the highly competitive Aston Villa. Palmer missed the trip to Arsenal owing to illness, but Pochettino will at least be hoping to see him back next time.
