CDA Chairman Urges Community On Cleanliness, Regular Sanitation

The leadership of the Ilasan Housing Estate Community Development Association (CDA), Eti-osa, Lagos advised residents on the importance of cleaning their environment.

Chairman of the association, Mr. Kazeem Sulaiman gave the advice today in the course of an environmental sanitiation exercise within the neigbourhood.

He particularly advised shop owners to clear off gutter blockages around their premises for easy flow of water, as a way of assuring healthy living.

Mr Kazeem spoke against the background of perennial flooding in the area, which the executive of the CDA had been battling for some time now..

He reiterated the point that the drainage problem had been a major challenge confronting the leadership of the CDA from inception, warning that those abusing the drainages would be penalised.

    Sulaiman added that despite that Thursday had been agreed as a general cleaning day, but that residents should make cleaning of their environments a regular habit, adding: cleanness is next to godliness.

“Anyone that engages in this new development should remember that he or she is not only helping in the free flow of drainages but also making the packed sand from the gutters to be used in filling up the eroded part of the streets which will make the them  motorable,” he said.

Another leader of the task force, Mr. Samuel Kadir, who is also the vice-chairman of the association, told The Eagle correspondent that compliance with the new development would eventually yield good results.

He expressed the optimism that tenants on ground floors who used to experience flooding of their apartments would not experience such anymore, crediting this to the CDA.

He also made a case for regular clearing of grasses within the within the environment, adding that fixing of broken soak-away pipes and renovating of other dilapidated infrastructure, would not only save the residents from epidemic but also make the estate look attractive.

“If our people can adhere to this principle, we will all enjoy a healthy environment,” he said.

A resident, Mrs. Sarah Aaron, expressed satisfaction with the new development urging the state government to assist the CDA financially.

She said such a gesture would go a long way in helping the CDA realise its objectives.

“This is a welcome development and I pray that chairman and other members of the association would not fall sick so that the execution of this task will be monitored and completed successfully,” she said.
