The Nigerian Journalism and Human Resources spaces are set for a capacity reinvigoration following the coming of two strategic trainings by leading educational institutions and professional bodies in Nigerian and the United Kingdom.
First is a journalism Outlook Conference scheduled for Monday, July 20, 2026, at Caleb University, Imota, Lagos, followed by HR Space Conference 2026 for July 21, 2026, at the Marriott Hotel, Lagos.
Caleb University is collaborating with the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), the University of Cambridge, UK, and the University of Greater Manchester, UK to deliver the two epic events.
Addressing a press conference on the trainings today, the Vice Chancellor of Caleb University, Prof. Olalekan Asikhia said they would bring together Nigeria’s foremost leaders in human resources and journalism to chart practical paths toward, especially coming at a ctitical time for the two fields.
Particularizing on the first which runs under the theme: “Reinventing Local Newspapers in the Digital Age: Innovation, Sustainability, and Global Community Impact”, Professor Asikhia observed that local newspapers for example, which were once the heartbeat of community engagement, now face unprecedented challenges

Nonetheless, he believes that these challenges also present opportunities for reinvention, innovation, and global relevance, which the conference should unveil for participants.
“Our goal is to provide a robust platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and actionable insights that will strengthen the sustainability of Nigerian journalism.

On expected participants for this particular programme, Professor Asikhia had a long long list including newspaper proprietors and publishers, journalists and editors, scholars of communication and media, technology experts, students of Mass Communication, public relations practitioners, digital entrepreneurs, government agencies, policymakers, and professional media bodies.

“At the conclusion of the programme, we expect to chart a clear roadmap for Nigerian newspapers—one that strengthens resilience, drives innovation, and positions our media to thrive confidently in an era defined by rapid digital change and global connectivity”.
The Lagos State governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is expected at the second conference which would be running under the theme: “Reimagining HR for Business Resilience and Growth: Leading Nigeria’s Workforce Through Disruption and Innovation”, while Alhaji Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment would grace.
Across keynote sessions, industry–academia roundtables, and panel discussions, participants will engage with practical strategies for:
- Building future-ready talent pipelines through reskilling and upskilling.
- Leveraging data-driven HR analytics to impact business outcomes.
- Addressing workforce flexibility, hybrid work, and employee engagement.
- Strengthening academia–industry collaboration for sustainable growth.
“At the conclusion of the programme, participants will adopt “The HR Leader’s Action Agenda for 2026 and Beyond”—a resolution outlining actionable strategies to transform Nigerian businesses and strengthen our workforce for the future”, the Vice Chancellor stated.
Special Programmes Director at the NIJ, Dr Jide Johnson was also on hand to provide the media perspective of the training, underscoring the fact that it could not have come at a better time than now.
He also conveyed the excitement of the NIJ to partner with a leading private institution in the country, in the training of the manpower for the ebullient Nigerian media industry.
