Bruno Fernandes Devastated After Man Utd’s Loss To Chelsea

Bruno Fernandes admitted that Manchester United “gave it away” to Chelsea after their late capitulation at Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening.

Conor Gallagher and Cole Palmer gave Chelsea a 2-0 lead in the first 19 minutes of the match, setting a dismal tone for United. But Erik ten Hag’s team showed tenacity, as goals from Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho helped them fight back into the game by halftime. The captain gave United supporters even more cause for optimism when he gave the team the lead halfway through the second half. However, Palmer scored two goals in injury time for Chelsea, completing an incredible comeback that left United in disbelief.

Speaking to TNT Sports in the aftermath of the match, Fernandes said: “We had the game in our hands and we gave it away. It’s frustrating. It’s difficult to take. We had good control in the last few minutes. But they got two chances and scored two goals. From the corner, we have to be much quicker. We knew beforehand they take corners and throw-ins quickly.

“In the last games, we’ve conceded too many shots. It’s about defending your box. It’s a big game (on Sunday against Liverpool). I don’t need to say anything (to my teammates). If I need to say anything it’s a problem because this is a massive club.”

Chelsea managed an incredible 28 shots on goal, exposing United’s defensive weaknesses once more. Since the beginning of the season, Erik ten Hag’s team has given up the most shots on goal in the competition—225.
