BREAKING: Okupe Steps Down As DG Of Labour Party Presidential Campaign

The director-general of the Labour Party presidential campaign council, Doyin Okupe, has resigned from his position.

In a letter dated December 20, 2022, to Peter Obi, LP presidential candidate, he made his resignation official.

Okupe resigned hours after being found guilty of money laundering allegations.

On Monday, an Abuja-based Federal High Court found the embattled Director General of the Obi-Datti campaign guilty of violating the Money Laundering Act.

In the end, the LP leader received a two and a half year prison term.

On each of the 26 counts, totaling N13 million, for which he was found guilty, the presiding court, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, did provide an alternative of a N500 000 fine.

The former Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan opted to pay a fine of N13 million to beat the 4:30pm deadline.

THEEAGLE had earlier reported that Bayo Onanuga, the director of media and publicity for the Tinubu-Shettima Campaign Council, made fun of Okupe and claimed that he was unworthy of holding the position of director general for Obi’s campaign.

According to Onanuga, the former PDP stalwart’s only remaining alternative is to “honourably” withdraw from the race.

He said, “Okupe should resign from his post as DG of Obi’s Campaign. He should do so honorably. The court has spoken. He should no longer be involved in the campaign.”
