BREAKING: APC’s Alleged Plot To Assassinate INEC Chairman Revealed

On Wednesday, the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) expressed concern about an alleged plot to assassinate Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in order to taint the general elections in 2023.

This was revealed by the National Chairman of CUPP, Ikenga Ugochinyere, who spoke on behalf of the opposition parties, at a conference in Abuja.

He said that new schemes to stop the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) from being deployed in the election had also been discovered by the coalition.

Ugochinyere claims that similar measures are being made to halt electronic results transmission at the polls.

He noted that a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party in power, was in charge of the conspiracy in the South East region of the organization.

The coalition had previously accused Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma of alleged voter registration fraud in the state, prompting a response from INEC.

The group cited the recent arrest and continued detention of INEC officials in Imo State for over a week without prosecution as parts of plan to intimidate the electoral umpire staffers and subsequently remove the Chairman just like the Chief Justice of Nigeria was removed from office before the 2019 general elections.
