Brazilian Football Icon, Pele’s Public Funeral Date & Location Announced

All information on the farewell ceremonies for Pele, the King of Football, has been made public.

 

The legendary player for Brazil and Santos passed away on Thursday from symptoms related to colon cancer, leaving the football world in sadness. He was 82.

Santos Futebol Clube provided all the information on how supporters may bid farewell to one of the game’s all-time greats as players and football clubs from all around the world paid their tributes on social media.

 

As Pele’s health declined throughout November and December, the arrangements were made, and he had a say in the location of the funeral.

When is the funeral being held?

 

The public ceremony for Pele will last from January 2, 2023, to the morning of January 3. The general public will have gate access, and journalists, notable figures, and other prominent figures will have separate entrances.

On January 3, a procession through the streets of Santos will be followed by his private burial.

Where is the funeral being held?

 

Before his public funeral at Vila Belmiro (Santos stadium) begins on January 2, Pele will be embalmed and transported from the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo.

Following the public celebration, there will be a procession through Santos’ streets honoring the icon for exactly 24 hours. He will then be interred privately in the Memorial Necropole Ecumenica with other family members.

After Pele’s coffin is paraded through the streets of Santos, he will be laid to rest in the Memorial Necropole Ecumenica. This area will not be accessible to the public.
