Bold Abubakar, Shows 20 Policemen Who Is Smarter

It certainly would take a bold, smart man to attempt the stunt of this Bauchi dud on 20 policemen

Even if it did not reach its full maturity, at least, he literally showed them who is smarter.

Thus, while the tendency is for Nigerians to complain of being extorted by their policemen, it was the other way round with Shirhabil Abubakar.

How did this native of Soro Village in Ganjuwa Local Government area of Bauchi State, do it?

He just walked into them at the Police Divisional Headquarters in Ningi Local Government Area and hoodwinked them.

Introducing himself as a staff and Payroll officer of the Links and Mutual Microfinance Bank, he got them to part with various sums of money, un perturbed that they could find out and deal with him there and then.

Abubakar fraudulently talked 20 policemen attached to the Division, into subscribing to an instant but bogus loan policy.

The report available to The Eagle, said they all willingly subscribed and applied for various amounts of money on the so-called instant loan package, having supplied all necessary information to one Umar M Nasir, an accomplice.

In his words “After he (Abubakar) disbursed overpayment, he now called the offices and told them that it was a system error asking them to refund the overpayment to some individual accounts, saying the owners of the accounts are their payroll officers”, the report said.

All these were before the bubble burst on Abubakar, landing him at a Bauchi Magistrate court.

The Prosecutor on the case gave the names of the police officers defrauded with the amounts paid to Abubakar as follows: Elisha Simon N333,000, Ahmed Hassan N370,000, Shehu Baba N229,000, Abubakar Ibrahim N285,000, Shuaibu Mohammed N194,000, Mohammed Musa N187,000, Abdullahi Mohammed N227,000, Mona James N195,000,

Others are Halilu Mohammed, N206,000, Mohammed Zangi N70,000, Yusuf Abdullahi N59,000, Dahiru Abubakar N137,000, Nuhu Maaruf N276,250, Abubakar Bello N92,000, Yakubu Victor N83,000, Garba Isah N409,000, Alex A, li N212,000, Ayuba Samson N153,000, Nasiru Inuwa N269,600, and Yahaya Aoffensei N95,000.

But for nemesis, Abubakar would have walked away with a total sum N4,083,850k of earned police officers’ pay.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Yusuf Usman told the court presided over by Chief Magistrate Haruna Abdulmumin with suit number CMCBH/14642/22, that Abubakar thus contravened sections 27(C)(1)(2)(3)(4), (b)(5),20,22,13, of the cybercrime prohibition, prevention CTC act, 2015.

He also contravened sections 1(a)(b)(2) of the advance fee fraud and another form of related offenses, 2006 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the charge against him read.

When the presiding Magistrate Mamman asked the accused if he understood the case against him, he said he did.

The Magistrate has now ordered the accused to be remanded in a correctional service facility.
