Karim Benzema’s prospective participation for France in the 2022 World Cup final has once again been brought up to Didier Deschamps.

The now Ballon d’Or-winning Real Madrid striker was initially excluded from Les Bleus’ preparations in Qatar due to an unfortunate thigh injury sustained the day before the competition. However, he has resumed training and is still included in France’s team, so he may be welcomed back and given playing time in Sunday’s match against Argentina.

Deschamps is withholding little information about Benzema, however, responding to a question about whether the 34-year-old attacker will participate in the match against Lionel Messi and company with, “I don’t really want to answer that question. Next question.”

When it was revealed that Benzema might be well enough to compete in the Qatar 2022 knockout rounds, France’s manager earlier stated the following on the subject: “Wow. Well, I’m not sure [what to say], that’s really not something that I’m thinking about. You seem to know a lot about the situation but I haven’t really been following who has been saying what.”

The 2022–23 season has seen Benzema struggle with his fitness, making just 12 club appearances for Real, with his last start for the Blancos coming in a La Liga match against Elche on October 19.
