Behold, The New Olubadan Of Ibadanland, Is None Other Than…

Behold, the new Olubadan of Ibadan as confirmed by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is none other than Senator Lekan Balogun.

Gov Makinde approved the appointment of Lekan Balogun as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland today through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa.

“I am pleased to announce the appointment of the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Lekan Balogun as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland.

“The appointment is in line with the Olubadan of Ibadan Chieftaincy Declaration, as well as the unique and time-tested tradition of our people.

“On behalf of the government and good people of Oyo State, I wish the newly confirmed Olubadan a successful reign blessed with peace and unprecedented progress.”

It was all eyes Senator Lekan Balogun, formerly the Otun Olubadan of Ibadan land, following the demise of Oba Saliu Adetunji

Oba Adetunji Aje Oguguniso I, had joined his ancestors, aged 93, after a brief illness and was laid to rest at his Popo Yemoja palace in a ceremony that Otun Olubadan, and other chiefs did not attend.

The Otun Olubadan, High Chief Lekan Balogun and other members of the Olubadan-in-Council were absent at the burial except High Chief Rasheed Ladoja, who accompanied Oyo State Deputy Governor, who represented Governor Seyi Makinde.

The hierarchical arrangement in the Ibadan system has a two-line approach, the Balogun system (military chiefs) and the Olubadan (Otun) system, the Vanguard had earlier reported.

Olubadans are appointed on rotational basis to occupy the stool on the death of a monarch. The next to Olubadan and most senior on both lines are the Otun Olubadan and Balogun.

It added that the10 chiefs on the line to be crowned as Olubadan included Lekan Balogun, Otun Olubadan; Owolabi Olakulehin, Balogun Olubada n;  Rashidi Ladoja, Osi Olubadan;  Olufemi Olaifa, Otun Balogun;  Eddy Oyewole, Ashipa Olubadan; Tajudeen Ajibola, Osi Balogun; Amidu Ajibade, Ekaarun Olubadan; Lateef Gbadamosi, Ashipa Balogun Olubadan; Kola Adegbola, Ekarun Balogun ; and Abiodun Kola-Daisi, Ekerin Olubadan .
