Bayer Leverkusen CEO Surprisingly Backs Xabi Alonso To Become Real Madrid Boss

Fernando Carro, the CEO of Bayer Leverkusen, asserted that Xabi Alonso could lead Real Madrid while also giving Liverpool new hope.

Alonso is now one of the most sought-after managers in Europe, with Liverpool and Bayern Munich previously leading the pursuit. This is due to his incredible success at Leverkusen. The 42-year-old Spaniard has declared his intention to lead the Bundesliga team for at least one more season, despite the interest.

However, Leverkusen’s leadership acknowledges the challenge of retaining Alonso over the long term, given his burgeoning reputation and the inevitable interest from top clubs across Europe. Among the potential destinations for Alonso, Real Madrid stands out prominently as Carro expressed his belief that Alonso could eventually return to the Spanish capital where he enjoyed a distinguished playing career, albeit this time as a coach.

Speaking to Cadena Ser, Carro said: “I have no doubt that Xabi Alonso will coach Real Madrid at some point. What I am not clear about is when, but that he will end up at Real Madrid I have no doubt, as it is also possible that he trains Liverpool or Bayern. There are a lot of clubs interested, that’s how it is, which doesn’t mean that in the future he can’t coach some of the clubs mentioned, especially his former teams as a player. But he feels comfortable here, otherwise he wouldn’t continue. We will maintain our ambition to play in the Champions League next year.”

Alonso is reportedly seen by the club’s leadership as the best option to take over as manager of Real Madrid when Carlo Ancelotti’s contract expires in 2026, despite the fact that Ancelotti’s term runs until 2026. Alonso’s chances of taking over as manager at the Santiago Bernabéu in 2026 are further enhanced by the support of Real Madrid’s board, which includes club president Florentino Perez. Presumably conscious of the respect the club’s management accords him, Alonso has chosen to stay at Leverkusen in order to wait out the possibility of going back to Real Madrid.
