Frenkie de Jong, a longtime target of Manchester United is reportedly open to making a move away from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

The Netherlands international joined Barcelona in the summer of 2019 with the goal of permanently replacing Sergio Busquets at the centre of Barca’s midfield. However, he has had difficulty living up to the hype, with his cause being hampered by injury issues.

De Jong was rumoured to be leaving in 2022, with United, the dominant team in the Premier League, spearheading the charge to recruit him at that point. Barca was open to discussing terms, but the Dutchman was certain about his desire to stay in Spain and not move on.

AS claims that position is now being loosened. De Jong has experienced three ankle issues this season, which has limited his playing time. Barcelona is trying to earn much-needed money by selling off saleable assets.

De Jong is one of the players that the Liga giants are willing to part with, along with Ronald Araujo and Raphinha, should the right offer come up. Given that United is still looking to enhance the midfield engine room at Old Trafford, it might catch their attention once more.
