Another Huge Blow For Bayern As Rangnick Rejects Offer To Replace Tuchel

Ralf Rangnick has ruled out a move to join the Bundesliga’s biggest clubs, dealing Bayern Munich yet another setback in their hunt for a new manager.

Since Thomas Tuchel and Bayern have decided to part ways at the end of the current campaign, 2024–2025 will need a new coach. Fans have launched a petition urging Tuchel to continue, but he has not indicated that he will consider a change of heart.

He has led Bayern to the semi-finals of the Champions League, with there everything to play for in a heavyweight showdown with Real Madrid following a thrilling 2-2 first leg draw at the Allianz Arena. Tuchel could land a European crown and still walk away.

The former Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea manager’s replacement has been the subject of numerous rumours. One of the top targets was thought to be Xabi Alonso, who is staying put this summer after leading Bayer Leverkusen to the Bundesliga title. Following his contract extension with the German national team, Julian Nagelsmann has also chosen not to go back to Bavaria.

Questions have been asked of whether French legend Zinedine Zidane would be right for the job, while former RB Leipzig and Manchester United manager Rangnick has turned down the chance to take charge of Bayern as he intends to honour his contract with Austria through to the 2026 World Cup.

Rangnick said: “I am the Austrian team leader with all my heart. This task gives me incredible joy and I am determined to successfully continue on our chosen path. I would like to expressly emphasise that this is not a rejection of FC Bayern, but a decision for my team and our common goals. Our full concentration is on the European Championship. We will do everything we can to get as far as possible there!”

The favourite to take over at Bayern is currently Roberto De Zerbi, the manager of Brighton. Other theories include the possibility of Hansi Flick returning for a second stint at the top or the possibility of former Real Madrid and Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho returning to the top after being fired by Roma in January.
