A group of angry women have descended on a security checkpoint in their neigbourhood, levelling it to the ground.
The checkpoint had been mounted by men of the Operation Enduring Peace stationed near Kassa in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State to maintain security of lives and property.
However the women are incensed that insecurity of lives and property continues to define daily living in the area.
Angry women, from Gashish community thus mobilised and vented their anger on the checkpoint.
The immediate trigger was two different attacks in the area, which claimed 6 lives in total with several numbers of people injured.
On Sunday night gunmen had attacked Hurum-Gashish community, killing four people with others sustaining injuries.
This was followed by another attack on Bachi community that left two dead and several injured.
The attacks saw the women pouring out and venting their anger on the security point.
“We are tired of burying our children and husbands. The soldiers are here, yet we are still dying. If they cannot protect us, they should leave,” said Mercy Dachung, one of the protesting women.
“We removed the checkpoint because it has not stopped the killings,” Another protester, Nancy Gyang.

Indicting security personnel, she alleged that often, they arrived after the attackers had finished their operations and exacted heavy losses on the community.
Giving credence to this, a community leader, Chundung Bot, called on the relevant agencies to do something immediately to stop the attacks,
He said the way the attacks had become regular was making the people in the community to lose confidence in the security agencies.
