AFCON: Multichoice Agrees To Transmit Matches On Supersports

For football loving fans, there is something to cheer as the African Cup of Nations – AFCON would not be transmitted on Supersport.

The parent company of Supersports, Multichoice has just agreed to broadcast the matches of the tournament billed for the West African country of Ivory Coast.

This has put to rest anxiety and concerns over whether the company would avail millions of followers of the sport, the privilege of watching their teams perform on the continental turf.

All eyes would be on Ivory Coast between January 13 and February 11, when the AFCON 2023 games hold.

Before now, there were disappointment following Multichoice’s assertion that it would not be relaying the matches of the competition on Supersports.

 “SuperSport Channel will not broadcast the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 scheduled for January 13th – February 11th, 2024, because the channel has not secured the rights to broadcast the tournament.

 “However, AFCON 2023 games will be available through our partner broadcast stations on Free to Air (FTA) channels.

“Multichoice Africa remains committed to ensuring football fans across Africa continue to enjoy unrivaled access to entertainment and football games available on DStv and GOtv platforms including, the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Zambian Super League, and many more of football’s most prestigious competitions.”

Also, the Nigerian Television Authority, on Wednesday reportedly said, it would be transmitting all the 52 AFCON matches.

This was gleaned from the network’ss X handle, after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Afro Sports.

It tweeted, “NTA signs Memorandum of Understanding with Afro Sports for transmission of 52 matches of Africa Cup Of Nations in Cote D’ivoire.”
