Following Super Eagles 1-1 Group A tie with Equatorial Guinea, the head coach Jose Peseiro feels his squad might have won all three points.

On Sunday, January 14, following Iban Salvador’s well-placed opening goal in the Africa Cup of Nations, star striker Victor Osimhen levelled the score with a header from Ademola Lookman’s cross.

Peseiro expressed displeasure after the game about the draw, but he was upbeat about things turning around for him later in the tournament.

The Portuguese mentor mentioned in his post-match presser despite the humid conditions in Ivory Coast, his players did enough on the field, which could have gifted them three points.

“We did everything to win, we created many and clear opportunities, and we simply deserved to win,” he said.

“Playing at 2 pm isn’t easy, so the temperature and humidity were not good, but our players managed it very well. It wasn’t easy playing in these conditions.”

The highly-rated coach remains optimistic about the team’s next game and has left it in the hands of a higher power, “I am sad, the players are also sad but God gives and God takes. Next game, God could give us,” he concluded.

The Super Eagles are poised to meet hosts Ivory Coast on Thursday, January 18.
