Abducted Journalist With FIJ, Daniel Ojukwu Has Been Freed

Nigerian abducted journalist, who works with the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) Daniel Ojukwu has been freed.
The journalist’s freedom comes 10 days after his abduction by the Intelligence Response Team of the Inspector General of Police.
Daniel Ojukwu, a journalist with the Foundation for Investigative Journalism, abducted by the Intelligence Response Team of the Inspector General of Police has regained freedom.
News of his release was broadcast on the FIJ today.

He was held in connection with alleged violation of the 2015 Cybercrime Act.
Many reactions had followed ever since, includng interventions by FIJ’s lawyers, the Nigeria Union of Journalists FCT Correspondent’s Chapel and members of the public.
Meanwhile, Abimbola Ojenike, Managing Partner of Slingstone LP, FIJ’s attorneys has reportedly said that:
“Daniel Ojukwu’s case is one of the most egregious cases of human rights violation and misuse of the powers of the Police against journalists.”

“This will not go unchallenged. There’s a significant public interest in Daniel’s human rights enforcement action that goes beyond just this violation. The constitutional right to free speech is dead if journalists can no longer expose the malfeasance in government officials without fear or oppression.”
