The open mic event recently organised by the Mr. NIJ (of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism), tagged “NI_GEM” was almost marred by a misunderstanding amongst some students.
The event started with some students performing on stage in the school Auditorium at the event which held on 12 December, 2018.
Despite initial hiccups, the students were having fun until a comedian known as ‘De Baba came on stage to perform.
His performance did not however go down well with some people, especially a particular lady simply identified as Maria of the National Diploma class.
She called on the comedian to leave, saying he was cracking a dry joke.
In return, the comedian called her a prostitute, and that was how the show was interrupted by fracas.
One student, Bella from the Higher National Diploma class told our correspondent that what happened was a sign of immaturity from both parties, adding that since the student was not the target of the comedian’s show, that she ought to have left him alone.
She said basically the comedian was not directing his jokes to her, she ought to have ignored him, She also said comedians usually insult celebrities but that this does not make the latter to chase them off the stage.
Another student from National Diploma class, Paul said he was there, but, wasn’t concentrating, and couldn’t give much account of what transpired, beyond the point that that some people were arguing in the hall.
